Review by: TexasT on July 07, 2011 :

Wow. I started playing pool again after many years away from the table. This book hit the nail on the head as to what my problem was and how to fix it. I feel so empowered after reading this book that I can’t wait to get to the pool hall this evening. This ebook is so well thought out and well written than I couldn’t stop reading it. I will read it again and again for the inspiration I need to continue to improve my pool game. Thanks Jobo! (reviewed within a month of purchase)

Hey guys,  if for some reason you want the Kindle version instead of my PDF you can get it straight from here: Positive Thinking Clinic for Pool and Billiards ebook through Amazon.com

Now, if you’re anything like me, like I used to be when I began shooting pool as a teenager, you are just an average Joe (or Jane) trying to improve your pool-game the hard way – by assimilating bits and scraps of advice from the players around you a little at a time, trying to somehow make all the pieces fit.

And seeing only small successes over a long period of time.

As I shared with you in my bio – My First AHA! Moment – I had a colossal struggle in the beginning. Pool did not come easy to me. The techniques I learned to improve my skills and to keep me on my A-game were garnered from hard-earned lessons throughout many years of competing in pool leagues. In the beginning, applying what I learned properly was very difficult. More difficult than sorting through all the information I accumulated in order to sift the gold from the dross.

YES, there was a lot of dross! Why? Because most of the people I was trying to learn from were only marginally better than me, and their own education and experiences were flawed! Amateur players have such a hard time in the beginning because they get swamped with a lot of useless, unhelpful, and often downright WRONG advice from their peers.

So over the years, I polished my ideas and philosophies about how to improve at pool and billiards. But it wasn’t until I became a league-director that I really began to fine tune things. At that point in my pool-hall life I suddenly had dozens of amateur players coming to me, begging for advice on how to play better pool, on how to succeed and stay competitive in the league.

What I realized, during my trials and errors of teaching hungry pool players, was that the skills of mental discipline and positive thinking are the skills most lacking in the average player. I began to recognize that the times when I struggled the most with improving my own skills and execution were the times when I let my mental discipline and positive thinking LAPSE.

I latched onto this epiphany and began to adjust my teachings and my own practice sessions. I saw great results.

Here’s the crux of the matter: If you love pool and billiards as I do, in whatever format or game-style that is your favorite, I am sure that you have tried to knuckle down and practice your skills. You have run drills frequently and repetitively. And you have often come up short on your expectations of the results you wanted to create.

Where you most likely stumble is in your mental focus, your dedication to processing every failure or success minutely and adjusting your actions. And you fail to take proper control of your emotions AND your thoughts, both consciously and subconsciously.

A great peer and instructor of mine once said “Practice does NOT equal perfect. PERFECT practice equals perfect.”

To be able to practice perfectly, to be able to execute perfectly during a competitive game, you NEED strong mental discipline and strong positive thinking. You need to begin training your mind in ways that you haven’t yet given much consideration to.

In my Positive Thinking Clinic  I lay out a formula for you to follow that will reap you great results at the pool table if you apply it diligently.

You see, having a strong foundation of positive thinking will generate fantastic momentum for you during competition. I have LOADED this ebook with powerful tips and techniques to build improvements quickly. This is stuff I have used myself for many years to help me maximize the skills I have, and improve the skills that are lacking.

Beginners can put this education to use immediately for awesome results, and intermediates can sharpen their competitive edge by eliminating the negativity that has been attacking them from the shadows.

Purchase of my Positive Thinking Clinic will also get you the subscription to Table Talk, a fun and informative newsletter series that only members can read. $2.99 is an afterthought when you consider how much great content you can get your hands on. I have over 40 entertaining posts on this site up free to read for every aspiring pool and billiards amateur. I have a newsletter that is free with just a subscription. AND I’m offering tons more material stuffed into this ebook. Give me a shot (pardon the pun) and I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Let me give you a little personal example of how negative thoughts can fester, and how they can influence your actions when you let them:

One night playing in my old 8 ball league, my teammate came up against a tricky shot that he needed to make in order to win the game. He had a longer, thinner shot at the 8 ball than he was comfortable with, into the side pocket. He had just enough freedom that he could hit it a little full with a stop-stroke or draw-stroke, and the tangent line would direct the cue ball to the foot rail, or he could hit it a very thin with center or follow and safely reach the side rail, OR he could hit it just wrong and coast the cue ball straight into the corner pocket for a scratch and a loss.

We’ve all seen this shot before! (I can feel you nodding again) My teammate was terrified of the scratch and called me over for a coach. I firmly said “Forget about the scratch! It doesn’t exist. Decide which stroke you are more comfortable using (draw, center, or follow) and adjust your aim.”

I reminded him that the pocket is very wide, and that he could make the 8 ball full or thin, with room to spare. But all he could see in his mind’s eye was the 8 ball scratching into the corner pocket.

As I coached him to visualize a successful shot, he kept shaking his head negatively while trying to say “OK, OK, I can do this.” in the positive. That head-shaking had me worried, and sure enough the cue ball found the corner pocket like it was laser-guided.

My teammate blamed me, “See? I told you it was a scratch!” He could never understand that he had visualized that scratch so well that his subconscious mind simply helped him create what he expected.

Your subconscious mind will always help you create what you believe in! That’s it’s job. Take advantage of it! Use your conscious mind to build powerful, positive beliefs, thus training your subconscious to turn those beliefs into reality. Positive visualization goes hand-in hand with positive thinking. Visualize what you want to happen and your brain will make it so.
